Google Maps Timeline viewer & year in reviewEverywhere you went, on one card.

What you'll see

A map of everywhere
Every place you stopped, your routes, flights drawn as arcs, and the countries you visited filled in, on the Equal Earth world map the UN endorsed in 2026, which shows every country at its true size.
Distance by type of travel
Kilometres flying, driving, on public transport, cycling and on foot, and how far that is around the Earth.
Countries and cities
Every country and city, with how many days you spent in each. Airports count as the city they serve.
Nights away and trips
Nights you slept away from home, your trips and your longest one, and your farthest point from home.
Days per country
Days and nights in each country, 183-day flags and a Schengen 90/180 check, with an Excel spreadsheet to download. How to use it for tax.
A map to keep
Download your map as one file that opens in any browser and works offline, with its own timeline to explore any period.
Any stretch of time
Your whole history, one year, or any dates you choose, and honest warnings where your phone wasn't recording.

Who it's for

  • Travellers who want to see a year of trips in one place, and share it.
  • Anyone who misses the old web Timeline, now that Google only shows it on your phone, a day at a time.
  • Expats, remote workers and frequent visitors to Europe keeping track of days for tax residency or the Schengen 90/180 rule.

Your Timeline now lives only on your phone. Keep a copy you control.

Since Google moved Timeline onto devices, there is no web view, history is set to auto-delete after three months unless you change it, and in 2025 Google confirmed a technical issue deleted some people's Timeline data for good.

  • Export once and the file is yours, whatever happens to the app.
  • There I Went reads that file whenever you want, on any computer, without an account.
  • Old Takeout exports from before the move work too, so years Google no longer shows you come back.
  • Living across borders? It also counts your days and nights per country, flags 183-day thresholds and checks the Schengen 90/180 window, with a spreadsheet for your accountant.

How to export your Timeline

Takes about a minute. The file comes straight from Google to your device.

  1. Open your phone's Settings, then Location, then Location services, then Timeline. (On some phones it's under Settings, then Google, then Location.)
  2. Tap Export Timeline data and save Timeline.json.
  3. Drop that file above.

Used more than one phone? An export only holds what's on that phone: what it recorded, plus anything restored to it from a backup. Google no longer keeps a combined copy of your history anywhere. So export from each phone you've used and drop all the files together, with any old Takeout zip. Where they agree, nothing is counted twice; where they disagree about where you were, you choose which phone was with you.

Questions people ask

I've used more than one phone. Can I see all of it?

Yes, if you still have the files. Each phone keeps its own Timeline, and an export only contains what's on that phone, so export from every phone you've used (and keep any old Google Takeout zip). Drop all the files together, or add more with "Add another file" after the first. Where files overlap and agree, it's only counted once; where they disagree (a phone left at home, say), you choose which one was with you, and you can remove a file that isn't yours. You can then download everything as one combined Timeline.json. Why days go missing.

Can I still see my Google Maps Timeline on a computer?

Google removed the web version when it moved the data onto phones. This page reads the export file from your phone or a Takeout zip and shows the history in it on a map in any browser.

Is my location history uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read entirely inside your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, there is no account, and nothing is stored after you close the tab. Switch off Wi‑Fi after the page loads and it still works.

Google deleted my Timeline. Can this recover it?

It can't bring back what Google has deleted, but it reads any export you still have, including old Takeout Location History files from before the change.

Does it work with iPhone?

Yes. In Google Maps on iPhone: your profile picture, Settings, Personal content, Export Timeline data. The file is called location-history.json. Full export guide.

Why are places called "Near Utrecht" instead of by name?

Google's newer export contains coordinates only, no place names. Places are described by the nearest city. Older Takeout exports do include names and those are shown.

Why is part of my year missing?

The app can only show what's in your export. Gaps usually mean your phone wasn't recording at the time: Timeline or location was switched off or paused, battery saver or airplane mode was on, the trip was recorded on a different phone (Timeline lives only on the device that recorded it, unless you restored a backup), or the days were deleted. If Google Maps on your phone shows those days, try exporting again.

Is it free?

Yes. The map, the statistics and the share card are free, no sign-up.

Timeline exports contain your precise location history. This page reads them locally and keeps nothing after you close the tab.
